General model history:

With the X300 series, Jaguar introduced a comprehensively modernised XJ saloon in 1994 – the first to be developed entirely under Ford ownership. At the top of the range stood the XJR: it was Jaguar's first-ever supercharged production car and only the second Jaguar ever to use forced induction, after the XJ220.

At its heart is the 4.0-litre AJ16 inline-six, which – thanks to an Eaton M90 supercharger and intercooling – produces around 326 PS and 512 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through the robust GM 4L80-E automatic transmission, which Jaguar also used in the V12. With this performance, the XJR took on sports saloons such as the BMW M5 – wrapped in the finest British refinement.

From the factory, the XJR was distinguished by body-coloured trim instead of chrome and its characteristic mesh grille. By June 1997, only 6,547 examples of the six-cylinder XJR had been built, before the V8-powered X308 successor arrived. Among enthusiasts, the XJR6 is now regarded as a robust, characterful insider's tip with the classic, low-slung Jaguar silhouette.

Explicit data about this car:

This XJR was specially ordered in the elegant chrome specification with a chrome grille – a true "wolf in sheep's clothing" that gives no hint of its supercharged power. It has since also received a mild performance upgrade.
