General model history:
The Maserati Ghibli made its debut at the Turin Motor Show in November 1966, with deliveries of production cars beginning in March 1967. Named after a hot desert wind, the Ghibli embodies the combination of elegance and raw power. The body was penned by the young Giorgetto Giugiaro, then working at Ghia – with a long bonnet, a low shark nose and a stretched fastback silhouette.
Under the bonnet sits an eight-cylinder engine drawing on the marque's racing heritage: a V8 with four overhead camshafts, dry-sump lubrication and four Weber twin-choke carburettors. This gave the Ghibli a top speed of around 250 km/h, making it one of the fastest sports cars of its time – a direct rival to the great Ferrari GTs. From 1969, it was followed by the more powerful 4.9-litre Ghibli SS. By 1973, only around 1,170 coupés and 125 Spyders had been built in total.
Explicit data about this car:
The car bears chassis number 100 and is therefore one of the first Ghiblis to leave the factory in Modena.
- Originally delivered in Italy with the registration number EE 2553 mit dem Kennzeichen EE 2553
- The first owner subsequently took the Ghibli to the USA, where he used it until 1973. USA -
- It was then acquired by an Englishman who drove it until the end of the 1970s. The car then returned to the USA – at that point with only around 26,000 miles on the odometer – where it was hardly driven.
- The Ghibli later came to Germany, where the engine was overhauled.
- Around ten years ago, it was acquired with 29,000 miles . The low mileage is considered plausible, especially as the original leather is in very good condition.
- Last year: major service, Austrian individual approval, wheels refurbished and new tyres fitted.
The Ghibli is ready for long-distance touring and offers tremendous driving pleasure – an Italian Gran Turismo in the truest sense.
