The 1954–55 Tojeiro Halton Aston represents a fascinating era in British race car design of the 1950s. Developed by the renowned designer John Tojeiro, who later designed the chassis for the legendary AC Ace—and thus, indirectly, the Shelby Cobra—this car was custom-built specifically for a group of RAF pilots.
The car was built for the Halton Stable Racing Club, a group of RAF motorsports enthusiasts who competed in national races with great enthusiasm. The chassis follows Tojeiro’s proven design: a lightweight, torsionally rigid tubular frame with a sporty, low center of gravity and an aerodynamic aluminum body.
Between 1954 and 1957, the car regularly competed in national races at Silverstone and achieved remarkable success:
October 1956 – National Silverstone: 5th place
September 1957 – National Silverstone: 3rd place
October 1957 – National Silverstone: 2nd place
It is noteworthy that this vehicle was among the first race cars to use disc brakes—a technical advantage that few teams possessed at the time. Various engines ranging from 1.1 to 3.0 liters were tested over the years, underscoring the car’s experimental nature and continuous development.
Tojeiro himself was not only a designer but also a supplier of frames for the Jaguar C-Type, highlighting the close connection between his technical expertise and the iconic British sports cars of the 1950s.
The model offered here comes from the original Halton Racing Cars series and thus has a direct connection to British motorsport history. The car has been faithfully restored and documented, including its documented racing history and club history. Its combination of a Tojeiro chassis, handcrafted aluminum body, and early disc brakes makes it a rare example of British engineering.
This Tojeiro Halton Aston embodies not only a pioneering technical spirit, but also the passion of those postwar years, when enthusiasts with modest means but great skill shaped the world of motorsports.
