General model history:
The Riley RMseries was the last car model that Riley developed itself. The RM models were produced from 1946 until the merger of Nuffield Cie. (Riley) with Austin in 1952/1953 to form BMC. The RM family became known as Riley's top product.
Three types of RM cars were produced: The RMA was a large sedan and was later replaced by the RME. The RMB was an even larger car and was later replaced by the RMF. The RMC and RMD were roadsters produced in limited numbers.
The RM cars were equipped with either the 1,496 cc engine of the Riley 1 1/2 or the 2,443 cc engine of the Riley 2 1/2 - both four-cylinder with two semi-high mounted camshafts and hemispherical combustion chambers. (from Wikipedia)
Even before the war, these relatively powerful vehicles were popular as lightweight sports specials and were always successful at sporting events
