General model history:
The Mercedes-Benz 600, internally designated as the W 100 series, was the brand's top-of-the-range model from its introduction in 1963 until the end of production in 1981 and was regarded worldwide as a symbol of technical progress, luxury and prestige. It was the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to feature fully hydraulic comfort controls for windows, seats, boot lid and partition screen – a technological masterpiece of its time.
Under the long bonnet was a 6.3-litre V8 engine with 250 hp, which offered impressive smoothness and power delivery. The air suspension chassis and excellent noise insulation ensured maximum driving comfort, while Paul Bracq's striking, dignified design underlined the character of a state car.
In addition to the ‘short’ saloon, an even more exclusive long version was developed, the 600 Pullman, available with either four or six doors. These models were the vehicles of choice for heads of state, royalty and important personalities – the 600 Pullman quickly became an automotive legend.
