General model history:

The Cooper T25 belongs to a series of lightweight, innovative racing cars developed by Cooper in the mid-1950s, which played a key role in the rise of British motorsport. Typical of this generation was the mid-engine or rear-engine design, which was still unusual at the time but later became standard in single-seater racing. The cars were designed for national and international Formula 2 and Formula 1-style races and were characterized by a very light chassis, compact dimensions, and high agility.

During this era, it was common practice to combine different engine manufacturers with Cooper chassis, which is why some vehicles were equipped with Bristol, Climax, or even Maserati engines. Many T models were rebuilt several times during their careers, exported, and adapted for different racing classes, resulting in a very diverse and sometimes complex history for each individual vehicle.

Cooper racing cars from this period are highly sought after today due to their technical significance, their contribution to the development of racing, and their characteristic driving dynamics. Vehicles with documented original engines or racing history in particular represent a rare opportunity for collectors of historic monoposto cars.

Explicit data about this car:

This Cooper T25 with chassis number 687 was originally built for Gilby Engineering in 1955 and used by Roy Salvadori and Alan Brown during the racing season. It competed at Snetterton, Brands Hatch, and Crystal Palace, among other venues, as well as at other events, sometimes alongside Stirling Moss, who drove a Maserati Formula 1 car there.

After the season, the Maserati engine was removed and installed in a Timossi hydroplane racing boat in Italy, where it was used in racing for many years. The Cooper chassis itself was fitted with a Bristol engine and taken to New Zealand by Horace Gould, where it remained until the mid-1980s. The car then returned to the UK and was driven by Eddie McGuire at the Donington Park meeting.

The vehicle later ended up in Italy, where it was completely restored. During this work, the original Maserati A6GCS engine was also repurchased, reuniting the chassis with its original engine. Today, the Cooper T25 Maserati is fully restored, ready to drive, and available at a price upon request.
